Godalming Town Show And Carnival 2012Published: Tuesday 18th October 2011
Godalming are celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee over the first weekend in June 2012 with a series of events. Godalming Round Table are organising the Town Show and Carnival as usual - only bigger - on Saturday 2nd June. Over the rest of the weekend there will be sporting events, music, the lighting of a Jubilee Beacon, a Songs of Praise service and a huge firework display.
Those of you familiar with the Town Show and Carnival can expect much the same type of event as usual but much bigger.
The preparation for this year's carnival is already well underway with 130 local organiasations having being contacted with an invitation to participate. We are delighted to say that there is a lot of interest in the the event which we anticipate will lead to the biggest carnival Godaming has seen for many years. The theme for this year's carnival is Sport - we'd love to ee colurful displays of sports teams demonstrating their skills, community groups in canoes, brownies on bikes, pole vaulting puppets and lorry loads of lacrosse ladies and gymnasts on go-karts. The challenge is set - impress us.
During a recent meeting of interested parties in Farncombe, an offer was made to host a carnival workshop to help groups plan, design and build puppets, models and props for use in the procession. If you are interested in this, please let us know.
We are especially interested in hearing from groups who wish to participate in the event but may not wish to take part in the procession - we have many road closures to manage and quite a lot of logistical challenges. We are sure to be able to use as much help as we can muster to ensure the smooth running of the event.
To express your interest in the workshops, offer help in marshalling the event or for more information about any other aspect of the carnival, please contact Andrew Fergsson on firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Town Show is also taking shape with several slots on the field already booked. Much more information will follow but, in the meantime, to reserve your company/organisation's place on the filed please contact Dave Barker on email@example.com
